Cate Blanchett and Agnès Varda led a women’s march on the Cannes red carpet. The 2018 Cannes Film Festival is the first to happen after the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse allegations came out and the 82 women participating in the protest called for equal pay and equal representation in the film industry. Kristen Stewart, Marion Cotillard, Ava DuVernay, Léa Seydoux and Salma Hayek were among those who joined. The protest was co-organized by 5050×2020, a movement striving for gender parity in the French cinema.
