Barcelona is a city where it is impossible to be bored. Monuments, squares, buildings, attractions, bars, shows and many more things to do and discover; sometimes there are so many, that you might not know where to start.
Barcelona is a culturally immensely rich city and if you enjoy architecture and art, you will be already fully occupied, walking the streets of the Gothic centre and visiting the many museums and beautiful buildings everywhere in the city.
The theatres, cinemas and music halls are as well part of Barcelona's culture and so are the beaches and of course its parks and green areas, as well as the huge leisure time offer.
Barcelona is a friendly place for children and there are many things that the kids will enjoy. To start with, there is the Zoo in Parc Ciutadella or the largest Aquarium in Europe. Another great place for children is the Poble Espanyol in Montjuic and we recommend combining this with a trip in the cable car which goes up to Montjuic from the beach of Barceloneta and thus you can enjoy spectacular views over the city.
If you enjoy good views over Barcelona and the port, you can take as well the cable car "Transbordador Aeri" or the tram "Funicular del Tibidabo", which goes up to the Tibidabo mountain and the amusement park.
The Tapas (little snacks you get served with your drink) are especially good in the area of Barceloneta, which was originally a fishing village and there are still many places where you can get Tapas of fresh seafood and for a good value.
As well we can recommend having a stroll around the street markets, La Boqueria and Mercat St. Antoni, both with fresh products.
If you would like to relax at the beach, you can head for the city beach of Barceloneta and have a drink in one of the beach bars. Nevertheless, if you want to spend the whole day on the beach, you better take a train in one of the main train stations (Catalunya or Sans) and in only 20 minutes you can enjoy one of the nice beaches of the Costa Brava.
During the festivities of the Patron Saint Merce in September, the streets are full with open air stages where are performed concerts and all kinds of events. Some of the most recommendable stages are situated in Moll de la Fusta, La Rambla del Raval and Plaza de Catalunya. During this period is celebrated as well a street festival with fireworks.
Barcelona has it nearly all: A soft climate throughout the year and cultural and leisure offers for all tastes.
